How to create a clipboard journal block using PSE2

To create a fun clipboard journal block, you’ll need to create 3 elements and then combine them. We’ll start with the back of the clipboard.

Step 1: Open a new project 4” x 6” with 300 dpi and a transparent background.
Step 2: Using the Custom Shape Tool, create a rectangle with rounded corners.
Step 3: Add any patterned paper to the rectangle using the “Group with Previous” & “Merge Down” method or create any design you’d like.
Step 4: Give this newly decorated rectangle a simple inner bevel and set aside.

Paper Insert

Step 1: Open a new project 4” x 6” with 300 dpi and a transparent background.

Step 2: Using the Custom Shape Tool, create a rectangle that is smaller in size than your clipboard back shape. Set this shape aside.

Clipboard Mechanism

Step 1: Open a new project 3.5” x 2” with a transparent background.

Step 2: Use the custom shape tool in a coordinating color to create a rectangle with rounded corners that is ½” x 2”.

Step 3: Again using the custom shape tool in the same color, create a circle that is ¾”.

Step 4: Place circle over the rectangle and merge visible to create one layer.

Step 5: Use the erase tool to cut a hole in the circle of the clipboard mechanism and give a scalloped edge bevel.

Putting it all together

Layer all pieces together with the paper layer in the middle and add drop shadows as desired. Now experiment with other shapes for the clipboard mechanism and get creative!
