Easy Eyelets in PSE PDF Print

This is a very simple method to make eyelets. I have a tutorial that is "generic" for using in ANY software. This version of the tutorial is for PSE only and has images to help you see the process.

* I have PSE 2 - There are slight differences in the appearance of newer versions, but they work in pretty much the same manner.

Start by creating a NEW file - size... 1 inch by 1 inch (300 x 300 pixels) with a resolution of 300 pixels/inch. Mode: RGB color - Contents: Transparent

Your eyelet will be much smaller than one inch, but this is the size I used for the illustrations.

You'll need to make sure the foreground color is the color you want. Adjust it as needed so you can create the perfect color eyelet! If you are matching an existing kit, you can use the eyedropper to sample a color from that kit.

Select the custom shape tool and find the "Circle Frame" shape (You might need to view "all element shapes" to have the longer list of shapes - you can find other options by clicking the triangle in the circle). I am pretty sure this is a preset shape and NOT one that I've installed from the Internet.

Create your eyelet shape. If you hold down the shift key while making the shape, it will stay a circle (same height and width). I made mine .4 x .4 inches.

Now, you have a flat eyelet. I'm sure you want it to look more realistic, so we'll be adding a "bevel" - this is the rounded look that gives it depth.

On the top right side of your screen, you should have a row of tabs (this is the "dock") Look for the one called "Layer Styles" and click it. At the top of the box that popped open, make sure you have "Bevels" selected; if you don't, select it now. Click on "Simple Inner" for the type of bevel you want for your eyelet.

One more step! When you add a style to any image, it uses preset numbers and settings. You will often want to adjust them. On the dock, click on "Layers". You should only have one layer, and it should have a tiny blue circle with an "f" beside it. Double click the blue f circle and it will pop up a window for making the adjustments.

You can adjust the bevel size and the lighting angle here - play with them until you get a look you want!

Once you are done, save your eyelet. You might want to include your name in the file so you can remember to give yourself credit when you use it!
