| The Sun Knows By Stacy Carlson I really started taking photos when my daughter, who is now 6, was born. I remember I had a film Canon and one of the first things that I picked up about taking photos was that if you had window in your home, use it. d have read over and over again that light is what makes or breaks a photo, and natural sunlight is one of the best sources for light. The color in your photo are going to be truly, more natural. The best spot in your house to take photos would be in front of a window. A picture window is even better. Pick a time in the day when the sun is not at it's brightest and most direct. A softer sunlight is much more effective. If you can find a wall that is "empty" as your backdrop, it works perfectly. I often use a sheet though, as it's cheap and for my unprofessional photos, it does the trick. Place the subject so they are facing the light source, and experiment. Use natural light as much as you can. I've been known to drag a table to the natural light so that I can photograph something in it (my husband has sense stopped thinking that I'm totally bonkers, but that came with time ;)). One of the best (and funniest) photo sessions I have ever had with my kids was done in front of a picture window in my house. No flash, no editing, just my kids in the natural light.
