Here is a brief tutorial on how I make grosgrain ribbon.

Open new document with width of 0.5 inches and height of 12 inches (vertical ribbon).
Set your foreground color to be the basic color of your ribbon and the background color to a slightly darker version of the foreground color.
Fill the ribbon with the paint bucket.
Make the main part of the ribbon the active layer and select Filter> Sketch> Halftone Pattern from the main tool bar. Set the pattern type to Lines with a size of 3 and a contrast of 20.
Now you need to add the outer ridges on a new layer (Ctrl-Shift-N).
Select the Brush tool. Select the a hard round brush (about 20 pixels) and set the brush opacity to 70%.
Now on the new layer, draw the outer ridges (Holding down the shift key will allow the line to be straight).
Add a slight inner bevel.

Merge the layers and you have a grosgrain ribbon.

If you have any questions, be sure to pm me.

Hi....
THANKS for the tute!

I tried it...
I LOVE learning that halftone thing...I never knew about that...that's cool!

I made my ribbon, and at actual pixels, it looks great.

At print size, the lines aren't evenly spaced...???? I don't know why...they are when I view them at actual pixel size.
My saved image looks decent, then when I apply it to a page, it doesn't look the same.

I am sure it's just something in my software program, cuz I have a couple of other little problems, too. Then again, I am possibly doing something wrong somewhere, so, I am going to play more with your tutorial.

THANKS for posting it!

I do the same too.

Flutterby I find it can look funny when i place it on the page, but when i resize it to 72dpi and 600x600 pixels it looks normal again...

That makes sense.....THANK U!

I find that I am having a problem with saved sizes in general....

For example....I make my paper at 12 x 12 at 300 pixels....then sometimes when I save it, it comes out, like, 200 something mbs ?????? lol.
Now, I see that you mention the 72 dpi......so, does or can that somehow come into play when I am saving my elements?
I know that when I reopen my saved items, they come up with a huge "actual" size, with 72 dpi....even tho I didn't save them that way....
So, do u think I should resize them using the 72 dpi and changing the pixel size?

great tutorial. My ribbon looks great. One question? By merge do you mean link together in layers pallet or merge up or down in layers on tool bar?

mommyrn- when you do the halftone, make sure that the background and foreground colors are simliar but one just a little darker than the other.

I'll give this a try, but I have to study up a little bit on the brushes
