I would like to introduce you all to our first Gotta Be Me featured scrapper, ScrappinMichele!
Please join us at a "Gotta Know You" crop on November 17 at 10 P.M. EST in the Gotta Pixel Chat room. You will have the opportunity to talk to Michele, ask her questions, and join in an event or two during the crop.
Here is Michele's interview.
Tell us about you...
I'm a 38 year old SAHM with 4 kids. I have 2 boys (9 & 2 1/2) and 2 girls (6 & 16 months). I've been married for 11 years to Jason (who is the VP of a tradeshow for an association). Jason and I met on AOL about 12 years ago. Back before online dating was "in." The internet has been a part of our lives from the beginning. I keep telling my kids that they wouldn't be here if it weren't for the internet. LOL! Besides scrapbooking I love reading, watching movies and traveling. I hate cooking, cleaning and laundry!!! We live in Northern Virginia right outside of Washington DC. I love living here because we are far enough away from DC where we don't have to deal with tourists all the time, but close enough to just go down and be a tourist for the day.
I have been paper scrapping all my life, but more seriously for 9 years. I am definitely addicted. About 16 months ago I was on bed rest with my 4th child and my husband bought me a laptop to help me get through the 3 1/2 weeks and I decided to check out all the digiscrapping sites that I had bookmarked but never really looked at. I was hooked!!! Digital scrapbooking
takes my two hobbies and combines them. I'm addicted to my computer and to scrapbooking.
How long have you been scrapping?
Paper scrapping for about 9 years and digi scrapping for a little over a year.
Do you paper scrap, too?
YEP, but not much since I found digi scrappin, but I have a whole scrapbook room full of paper supplies I can not part with.
Do you do other crafts?
No...never have!
How does your family feel about your scrapping?
My dh is so supportive and he loves the end results. My kids ALL love looking at their books. My 6 yr old daughter likes to scrap with me.
Tell us about your computer and software.
I have a Dell Dimension with so many hard drives I'm not sure anymore how many. I just bought a 400 gig hard drive last week cuz my 200 is almost full. I have a Wacom Tablet and I use it some, but not a lot. I have 1 gig of RAM. And my prized possession is my 32" monitor. I also have a HP pavilion laptop which is usually where I do most of my work. With the kids I
can't stow away in my office and work so my laptop is networked (wirelessly) with my desktop so I have access to everything there, but I can work from anywhere and I work from everywhere. I use Paint Shop Pro X mostly to design and I create my layouts with Digital Image Pro 2006. I also have Photoshop Elements 4 and Photoshop CS2 which I'm relearning since I haven't used Photoshop since version 6. I use the Elements Album to organize my thousands of photos.
What/who inspires you when you are doing a layout?
Oh geez...everything. If I'm stuck I scour the internet or find a challenge. But sometimes I'll be stuck and I'll look up at the TV and a color will catch my eye or something else.
What is your favorite topic to scrap?
My kids!! But I'm trying really hard to scrap me more.
What colors do you gravitate to?
I like mauves & greens together. I don't know why..if you ask me if those are my favorite colors I would say No, but when I scrap I find myself using those a lot.
What kinds of supplies do you have a lot of in your folders?
Everything...I have a 200 gig hard drive with only 2 gigs left full of just digital kits. I tend to not buy only paper packs because I love elements too.
What style/s have you not tried but would like to?
Ephemera (sp?)
What style/s do you stay away from?
Complicated.
What layout in your gallery here is your favorite?
>>This Layout<< (http://www.gottapixel.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/451/cat/500/ppuser/102) because it was an easy layout and shows my whole family and the beginning of my family ABC book.
When doing a LO, do open pics then look for a kit to go with them, or open kit first, and find pics to go with it?
I do both. Sometimes I have a new kit I have to use and I find pics. But then sometimes I am scrapping an event and I look for the kit.
Do you make any of your own supplies?
YES...a lot!
If you do, what stores are they sold at?
More DigiScrappin Stuff and soon to be at The Digi Dreamer (I just became Senior Creative Team Member at Digi Dreamer)
Have you been published yet?
Nope, but that's probably because I've never submitted anything.
What are your future goals in digital scrapping?
I would like to design more and some day I would like to be published. I would like to write a book, but I'm not sure about what yet. I'm working on writing classes for digiscrappers and I'd like to teach someday.
What is one piece of advise that you would like give to anyone who is just starting out in digital scrapbooking?
I have a motto, "If you are having fun, then you're doing it right." I hate getting the question am I doing it right and it's not because I'm snooty, it's because I don't think there is a right or wrong to creativity. If you like it...it's right!!! Who cares if someone else does or doesn't. I always tell people, if someone is going through your album and points out that there are too many elements on that page or that you don't have a focal point on that page, then take the album from them and don't let them look. If you worry too much about whether it's right, you won't do it and the
point of scrapbooking is to do it!!!
