View Full Version : Freebies download problem

Hi,

First, thank you for bringing back the freebies. I love this site and it's the first place I go every morning.

When I go the download section (like the Daily Download), I see the different downloads available. I click the link above the picture (and also tried clicking the picture), and it brings me to an accept/decline screen. I click accept and it brings up my download manager. However, the file it brings up is always called the same thing, "local link.htm".

When I go to my folders to see if it downloaded, all it contains is the blue "e" Internet Explorer symbol, and when I hit that it just brings me back to your download section.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong. I'd love some help.
Thanks!
Denise

What kind of browser are you using? Have you tried another browser? Can you give me the exact file name it gives you?

I use MSN with Windows Explorer. This is the first time I've had trouble with your site.

It doesn't matter which zip file I try to download, I always get the same thing, a file called Local_links.htm.

Very strange. Any ideas?

Have you tried this in Firefox?

I am talking to the developer of the software about this. Will try to get an answer soon.

The same things happens to me too...I tried in firefox and cant get anything to DL...tried it in IE and it fdownloads but the files have a huge long number...I hate IE so would rather not use it if I dont have to. I like the idea of 30 posts to get the freebies and understand why you had to change things but it sure is a pita at times..hehee...perhaps you can set it up like another site does and locks people out until they pay for their membership then it lets you in...I dont know...it would be more work but perhaps you can do it like that somehow...send each person a PW of sorts once reached....no that wouldnt work either because the ones who were stealing would just give the password out...I hope something can be worked out...You girls do awesome work and would hate to see things no go well...thank you for ALL you do for us!

** This is the note from the developer **

Your users may be using download managers on their PCs, e.g. products like FlashGet, which take over control of the download from their browser. That's what I was asking. If they are just using a browser, then which one? Can we pin down the problem.

Are you ladies using something like this?

I am using Netscape and Download Accelerator (DAP). This is the first time I ever have had a problem on this site and I have the same problem that has been described. Help.

For those who are having this problem... it's been put before the developer, however, the issue is most likely in the download managers you are attempting to use in your programs. He will look into this, however, no idea on when it can be fixed.

Thank you for researching this for us. I have tried a couple of different browsers ,and none works. I'm not a computer guru so I'm not sure if I'm using a download manager - I'll ask hubby. I didn't have trouble downloading prior to the site revamp, so I guess it's a compability problem with the new system.

Thanks!
Denise

I have made a minor change in our download manager. Please test it out to see if you are now downloading correctly.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was going to ask about this problem, but when I tried to download today, I bypassed the "accept/decline" part and was able to righ-click and download without a problem. Whatever you did worked.

please tell me, (in words a child can understand), when I download a freebie, what to do with it. Where to save it, and how to access it for use.
I have downloaded a few and opened them to see them, but couldn't do anything with them. Then after I closed the window (?) and tried to open them again I couldn't find them. I don't think I still have them.

Hi Sweetscraps :)

When you d/l something from our site, it's in a zip file. So you'll have to unzip it in order to use it correctly and see it again. It's all there, just compressed so you can download it faster.

Provided you're using Windows here's what you do: To unzip the file you'll need to navigate to the spot you downloaded it to. Then double click on it. On the left you see some options open up. Under Folder Tasks, click on Extract All Files, then a box will come up, click on the Next button. Windows will give a default spot to download it to. If you don't want to put it there, then click on the Browse button and and you'll get another box that says Select a Destination. Find the spot you want the file, click on it and click on the Ok button, then Windows will unzip the file and you should be able to see everything.

Sorry that was so long. If you need any help, just let us know!

Where you save it is up to you, but make sure you remember where it is :)

I have a folder in My Documents named Scrapbooking. Everything is there from my layouts to kits. (Finished LOs go somewhere else entirely - my system is a bit odd, but it makes sense to me lol!)

There are many ways to organize kits, and I won't even get into that, but I will say make sure you name the file so you know where they came from and who made it.
