exceeding file size

I new to scrapbooking and am just using Broderbunds 'creating keepsakes scrapbook desiger deluxe' software.

It has limited ability to save files. Using this software my pages end up about 5,000KB in size, which I then 'export' as a jpeg, which gets them down to about 500kb in size. Or I 'select all', paste into the 'paint' software that comes with Windows, which gets the file sizes down to about 250kb. That's as low as I can go.

Any suggestions as to getting the files sizes lower. I've done my first gottapixel challenge, and wld love to upload it.
