Ok this last shutterbug challenge has made me realize I still haven't really got my camera mastered. I know I should read the manual but I"m not even sure where it is any more. Anyway how do you get a close up the right way? I tried using the macro (at 18" away as I THINK thats what the manual said) but it would only work with a flash but then it totally washed out the photo.

also does anyone know of a good photography site? somewhere that is a little beyong beginner but isn"t designed for pros?!?

What kind of camera ? What was the lighting etc ? That would help someone to know how to help you.

ok, let see its a Minolta...not sure what model (i'll have to look later) its a digital with 10x optical zoom. And I tried lots of different lighting but it was already dark so couldnt do natural lighting this time but I remember having the same problem when I tried doing flower this past summer even in great natural light.

on the dial on the top there should be a little tulip - can you see anything like that?

oops i see you did - well 18" is far too far away for a macro - your lens should only be about 10cm or so away - not far off touching...

When I do macros of tulips I stick the lens in the flower ;D

Lisa, if you will get the information from your camera, you can go to GOOGLE and do a search for Brand + Model Number + Owner Manual. I just did that about a week ago. Mine was so many pages, I directed my printer to a PDF file instead of my printer.

You really do NEED that manual to get the best results from your camera. You may even want to consider looking for a Yahoo Group of people using the same model. You could certainly consider it a "crash course" and ask your specific questions, too.

Good luck

Some great ideas...but I hope this forum doesn't just make me wish that I have a different kind of camera!

Oh, man...I LOVE your "Motherhood is not for wimps" blinkie! I have a friend who had a quote in her home, "a mother of boys works from "son"-up till "son"-down! Of course, I wouldn't want my daughter to be left out!
