A very straight forward question... Tell us about the most interesting, strangest, or wildest place you've ever been on holliday/vacationed.

I'll start:

Changmai, Thailand. We spent the night in a Karen village in the mountains of Changmai. After about 2 hours of hiking to this village, most of the folks in my party jumped into the near by river to cool off, only to find a few elephants up stream pooping in the water. Later that night a young boy offered me leggless grasshoppers as a snack. Nope, didn't eat it!

Your turn...

Sturgis, but boy was it fun! And yes, I rode there on the back of a 94 Heritage Softail :)

For me it was Guam. Lived there almost two years. My DD & friends got stuck at the beach one evening and DH went to get them. He said all he could do was sit in the car and laugh. The girls were standing on a picnic table with wild boars all around them. He drove onto the beach finally to scare them away so the girls could get in the car. They never missed the last bus out of there again. :)

"wild"?

I've been all over the world, even Amster****, but didn't think my stay was that wild. I would have to say Las Vegas. Been there a few times and every time I go there.... it's a wild ride! lol

Never been to Amsterdam, always wanted to go and check out the country side. My husband's been there... he said it's a very pretty city.

A toss up between the Domincan Republic and San Francisco! *L*

Was in a village in the D.C. and those people had nothing, worked so hard for everything they had and they were the happiest, most friendly people you could hope to ever meet. San francisco people are dripping, filthy rich and they never smile!
I loved both places though, obviosly for different reasons :)

Bangkok, Thailand -- went there a couple years ago for a wedding - a traditional Thai wedding! The whole trip was "wild" in that I'd never been out of the US and it was so awesome to experience a culture totally different than mine.

I don't know about 'wild' but I spent two weeks in Grenada helping paint a school when I was 14. I was without my parents but with 7 other adults and no other kids - how wild could I get?!?

Barbados - spent 10 days in an unairconditioned cottage when it was hot as you-know-what outside. But it was ridiculously inexpensive and I haven't been anywhere that exotic since!

Went to Hong Kong with friends from work. I have never been around so many people in my life. That is one very crowded city. The sights and smells were very unique as the city is right on the harbor and there were tons of outdoor open air markets with all manner of things that people buy for their daily marketing needs. Tons of things to buy.

We have this place in Manila that is a bargain haven for shoppers. You can buy a decent and pretty blouse for as low as $1. It's a crazy place 24/7. There are lots of stores in there that sells different kinds of stuff - from vegetables, clothes, jewelry, fruits, meat, fish, etc. It has a funky smell even if it's an open area, jeepneys line up waiting for their passengers. Aside from being a bargain haven, it's also the haven of not-so-good people. But believe it or not, it's one of the most sought-after shopping places by visitors from all over the globe (especially those Filipinos who work abroad). It's one crazy place and very wild too :)

My husband and I went on a cruise to the Caribbean and we chose to go to on an outing to one of St. Marten's beaches for a beach party. When we got there we found out that the beach we were at was next to a nude beach. Need I say more?? lol

I would say the Kwajalien! Its where I grew up! Its in the Marshall Islands. It is almost 2000 miles south of Hawaii! The island itself is 3 miles long and half a mile wide! But if you want to get really wild,LOL, we would take boat trips to the surrounding island that were pretty much Jungle! We would camp out there for the weekend! It was kinda like survivor except we would have fire and fishing poles!

For me, Alaska was the place. I flew in to Anchorage to meet a friend. She had a friend living on Campbell Lake in the middle of Anchorage. He had a float plane and took us up to see what Anchorage looked like fromt he air. Everyone on the lake had a float plane like a second car. We went to Keni, Seward, Homer and all the glaciers we could get too. Took a walk on the Russian River with our bear bells. Watched the salmon on their way to spawning. Saw a moose and her babies along side the road. Stayed in a hostel for the first time. Saw those cute puffins up close and personal. Incredible week in my life.

I'd have to say Vegas (only other place I been to is Chicago). I went to Vegas for my 21st bday with 2 of my sisters and my mom. Had a blast! And we also went this past September for Our Honeymoon/Family Vacation, this time it was a huge family affair. Me and DH, our kids, my parents, lil bro and his GF, nephew and his GF, and 3 of my sisters and their DH and kids. My other 2 sisters and older bro didnt make that trip but hopefully they will this year. Anyway, this trip was the funnest ever, lol, I have memories that'll last me a lifetime.

I've been to Jamaica - if you get off the beaten path, it get's kinda freaky.

DH lived in Nigeria for a while - now that's wild - some of the stories he's told me are down right freaky!

Italy and Greece, would not say they were weird but different and interesting! lived in both for 3 years.

Had my first child in Italy, went to Venice twice. Meet very nice and kind people for the most part of it! The food was Great!

Got to see the Acropolis in Greece, ate lots off good food, my favorite is gyro. Just found a place here that makes them almost as good. Meet a lot of wonderful people.

It was a experience of a life time, would love to go back and visit someday.

I've led a pretty quiet life so far, no place very interesting like alot of you. I think the most wild place I've been is Mexico - just over the border from Laredo, Texas. Wasn't sure we would be getting back home at one point when we made a few wrong turns!

I'm so boring. The wildest place I've ever been to is .... OHIO! We lived in Cincinnati for a year while my husband was attending mortuary school. It may not have been the wildest place there is but it certainly was the scariest that I've been to. My favorite place that I've ever been is the Smoky Mountains. Absolutely beautiful.

It's a toss up. though neither was really "WILD" the most unusual places I have been are Mexico but not a vaation spot. A very poor area where we built 10x10' "homes" for families of 6+ people.
The other was more breath taking, in Alaska. Also for a mission trip but the accomadations were much better. We stayed with a local Dr who had a huge home way up on the mountain side with a hot tub outside so we could watch the sun "set" at night and watch TV outside. saw a mom and baby moose on the side of the road one night on the way back to the house

Belize in Central America...VERY exotic, we stayed i a grass hut on a white sandy beach on the edge of a small village...VERY rural, definately NOT Club Med! LOL...but also the most real and exhilerating experience ever! I was 16 and still in HS, my step-dad LOVED exotic, "not your run of the mill" vacations...I'm so thankful for his adventurous spirit!

It would have to have been Bali in Indonesia. 15 Years ago it was primitive, they used to lift the slabs of the footpath at night to air out the sewerage. It was a very poor country and to see the children and ppl beg and do just about anything for the tiniest of change was real sad.

The wildest trip I took was from Florida to Virginia. I was 18 and driving a car that wouldn't start again if you shut it off (I had to get a jump if I shut it down). I had $20 and a Mobil card. My boyfriend was in the Navy and I missed him. I made it there OK, but on the way back I got lost and didn't have the money to pay the toll on the way back. They gave me a bill and I had to mail them a check! I won't do that ever again, I was sooooo embarassed:~

Our trip to Alaska was the best. We cruised and we did a land tour of Denali Park. The wildlife was thrilling and I wish I could do it over. Wouldn't mind living there either I dare say. Anchorage and Fairbanks were so pretty with all the flowers!!
Blessings,

I've been lucky to do some great traveling but probably one of the best trips I ever went on was with my girlfriend's family (we were 15) to Crete, Greece for a month. We drove from Germany through Austria through what was then Yugoslavia and into Greece. Stayed in Athens a few days and then took a ferry to Crete. It was awesome and the Greek boys were very cute to a 15 year old girl!

I went on a real camping/canoo trip in the laurentian forests (Qu, canada). In one week-end I lived, hanging off a ravine, being "shipped wreaked" during a thunder storm and a roaming bear who seemed only curious. I also discovered what people call horse flies.

I went to Nogales Mexico with my sister, her daughter and my kids. It was wild. They got drunk and funny. We all shopped and had a blast talking down the prices of things we wanted to buy.

Didn't realize that my life has had a "wild side" until this question hehe! Let's see, was it the 2 week backpack trip through the High Sierra's where we had to hang the food in the trees because of bears, or was it river rafting down the Kern River. No I think it was taking a walk in Big River, CA (across the Colorado River from Parker, AZ) where I met the rattlesnake that took a lundge at me and missed by just inches (anyone tell you to just stay motionless, well let's just say, not this girl). No I've got it! The wildest place I have ever been was New York City. OMG I thought I was going to die for sure! The traffic! I am a terrified driver anyway and not even L.A. prepared me for NYC. To top it off, we went with my sil and her then husband who is a L.A. City fireman/paramedic and he was always lead car! After the first day I was litterally on Ativan and all the time we were in the car I had my eyes closed! Not kiddidng!

I got to spend a month on Crete when I was 15 with my best friend's family (a Greek-American family who owned a campground on Crete). We were right on the Mediterranean...and it was just the best summer of my life. I even fell in love with a Greek! LOL! :)
Another cool place I got to go to several times as a teen was Berlin, Germany...when the Cold War was in its height and the city was still divided. Very interesting city at the time.
