help with transparency needed

I am using psp8 and have been trying to create buttons etc with transparent areas. i have tried with no success to save as png with transparency settings and when i come to load them up again not transparent. i have had sucess saving as pspimage file but i would like to share them and not all people i know can use the psp format. is this a problem with version 8???
i know people do it with version 9, with the settings i use.

Goto File -> Export -> PNG Optimizer, make sure to select on the Transparency tab, Alpha Channel and then Existing Image. This will allow you to develop shading inside your items and it will come out looking like a perfectly normal image.

i have not worked out the problem but have avoided it by goin and upgrading to psp9. since doing this i have found that psp8 was saving with the invisable backgrounds, but was loading them back in flattened to background, could not work out why so i upgraded. ... problem solved

I wonder if you didnt have it set to see a PNG file as an acceptable file extension. Next time you want to check, go to File/Preferences/File Format Associations, and make sure that PNG is checked.
