Can anyone recommend a book or tutorial that I can get to be able to learn photoshop easily? I am new to digital, haven't done a layout yet, but I would like to find some resources that are written in English (unlike the manual) that will get me up and started quickly. Thanks for any help you can give me!

hahaha, funny -- I use Photoshop Elements 3 and found a couple books by Scott Kelby that helped me ALOT. One is called Photoshop Elements 3 Down & Dirty Tricks and the other is called The Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photographers.

I too use Scott Kelby's books.. very easy to understand and great for learning your program. For more specifics on using Photoshop or PSE in scrapbooking, I used Linda Sattgast's tuts from Scrappers Guide as well as purchased her tuts on CD. They were a great help in learning how to apply the differnt tools... styles ... brushes and etc to scrapbooking.. :)

Good Luck! :)

I bought a great book called Digital Designs for Scrapbooking by Renee Pearson. It takes you step by step using PhotoShop Elements 3.0 but I am sure it would work for photoshop too. By the time you finish the book you have 4 completed albums. Everything is included elements, pages, templates, ect. It is a GREAT book.

Like you I'm new to Photoshop and am trying to learn. I'm yet to do a lo using PS, so don't know how good what I'm about to recommend is yet, in practice, but i found these free video tuts on line here http://axhibition.com/Subdirectories/tutorials/photoshopT.html and was most impressed. Scroll down a bit to see the menu of tuts offered. I did into pt 1 and intro part 2 first. Most tuts are between 8 - 12 mins each and seem to give you a good basic understanding. Let me know how you go.

One site that I like with free photoshop tutorials is: http://www.basicphotoshop.com/basictutorials.htm
These don't deal as much with learning the interface as the one you mentioned, Tara.

Very widely used free tutorials are also on http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials.htm
--again more meaningful if you are familiar with the interface and the tools of PS or PSCS

I think http://watchandlearnphotoshop.com/defaultlandingps.htm is attractive too for getting started with Photoshop.
Try these out and see how you like them too.

I bought the Renee Pearson book and found it extremely helpful for a beginner. I got to meet her in person soon after that, so it makes me love the book even more!

I find membership at photoshopelementsuser.com (http://photoshopelementsuser.com) to be among the best $$ you could ever spend for getting those basic skills and getting up and running quickly. For Photoshop CS and CS2--outstanding education at NAPP (http://www.photoshopuser.com) is also a subscription site with outstanding tutorials, streaming videos, t.v., books and classes available.

The Kelby books are great....I've used them in the past for Elements.

I would echo the recommendation for Scott Kelby's book. I think it's called "Photoshop Elements 4 Book for Digital Photographers" (He has one for most every version of Photoshop and Elements - just substitute the version). Just pick what you want to do, and sit down at the computer with the book and follow along. If you want something just for scrapbooking (making paper, elements, etc.), try the DVDs from Scrapper's guide. Find them at: http://www.scrappersguide.com/products.html
