I often crop and then resize pictures, but how can i do this (in PS CS2) so they dont warp. My poor daughters head always ends up round like a soccer ball! Is there a way to resize and stay proportioned?
Thanks!

I use PSP, so I'm not sure what settings might be different. But, you do need to resize in a proportional way. If you make it 25% larger, you need to do the width and the height both at 125%. PSP has an option for "proportional" scaling - check to see if you have that option. While doing inches or pixel size can be nice, it is easiest to get correct scaling when you do percent instead.

Not a silly question at all...

If you are using IMAGE SIZE, then in that dialog box, look for the option for CONSTRAIN PROPORTIONS which will make sure your width changes in proportion to the height that you have chosen, and vice versa...

Thanks for the help, this is often with "Free Transform" (I think its called Ctrl+T). Say I have a picture with a whole body, and I just want to crop out her face to frame on a LO, I cut out the face and paste it and then try to enlarge it and its always messed up. Sometimes it looks ok on my screen but if i print it, its a wreck.
HELP!

Hi....
for Free Transform....if u hold down the shift key while pulling the pix from the corner, it should maintain it's proportions.
Hope this helps :-D

Oh man, I actually knew an answer to someone's question for a change and someone beat me to it. LOL I'm glad you got it figured out. Wouldn't want your daughter to sustain permanent psychological damage from you warping her in her pictures. hee hee

Ok I have this same question sort of. I use PSE4 and I can't seem to resize my images. When I go to Image Resize; the width, height & resolution are linked and it won't allow me to resize to a 4 x 6 photo for example.

Hi Anutter!

If I'm understanding your quandry... you're trying to resize your photo to 4 x 6?

I had that same problem when I started... there are a couple of things you may want to do...

1. Does your camera take a photo in 4 x 6 by default? Mine does, but when I edit it in PSE 4, it's in 10 x 6.667 or something strange like that. You'll want to make sure the "Constrain Proporitions" box is checked...then resize the number that's close to the 10...(in my case, mostly it's the "width") to 6. That SHOULD force the "height" to 4...or close to it.

You should then be set to go.

If your camera does NOT take a default 3:2 ratio (that's 6 x 4)... then you may have to CROP a 6 x 4 rectangle out of your photo. To do that:

1. Click on the cropping tool. (It's the strange diamond-type thing under the captal "T" (Horizontal Text tool).
2. In the tool bar above your workspace, there will be a field "Aspect Ratio" with a click-down feature. Click the clickdown (it's the small triangle) and choose "4 x 6 in".
3. Then click anywhere on your photo and you can then draw a 4 x 6 window...
4. When you release your button on your mouse, a small green checkmark and red circle with a line through it appear at the bottom. If you're happy with the area that will be cropped (it will be lighter than the shaded area around the rectangle)...click the green checkmark. If not, click the red circle/line icon.

I'm sure this was all as clear as mud! :(

Ask for more clarification if needed! :)
