View Full Version : Pass the Layout Challenge

Here is how this will work.

After everyone has signed up (we'll keep the list to about 5) a name will be drawn and and they will start a layout (3600x3600 pixels 300ppi) with only a photo or photos on it. The layout would then be emailed to the next person on the list and that person would add no more than 2 things to the layout... and when they are finished, it would be passed to the next person. When it's your turn, you can rearrange anything on the page, but you can't delete it. You would also be asked to finish your contributions as quicly as possible so that the layout could be finished in a timely manner.

Anyone wanna play with me? I'll put my name down for #1. If this works out well, we can have it on a regular basis.

**Added later. If you wish to play, your graphics program must be able to open a .psd file. Most graphics programs can, however, for this one, you have to make sure :)

I would think it would have to be .png. Jpeg would be a mess by the time it got to the end and we don't all work on the same SW so .psd, .psp, etc. are out.....

I'm game....put me down.

Actually, it would be passed as a .psd... it will have to be done this way so that if you want to move objects you can. I know that PSP opens .psd files, as well as many other graphics programs since Adobe is the dominate graphics program.

I'd love to play and I use Photoshop and Elements so I'm OK.

But, for those using DIP, it will open a .psd file but it's already flattened so nothing can be rearranged. I don't know about PSP.

Maybe we could do a challenge for each program?

I was thinking we would need to do a different one for each software/format. In fact, I'm willing to start one off for PSP if we decide to do that. But, I would suggest, that because PSP can be such a HOG - we do it as an 8x8 page (2400 pix) instead of the larger 12x12 page.

What does everyone think? I'd love to participate, but for the moment, I'm stuck in PSP.

This is an excellent idea. Lets see how this round goes :)

I'll keep checking back - maybe I'll have PSE before this one starts! If not, I'll do the PSP when that time comes.

I would love to play this one....how fun...I use PSE 3 or 4 so shouldn't be a problem; however, when the file gets more and more on it, will it be able to be emailed or will we have to send it through another means???

I was assigned the starter page but saving it in a .psd format and trying to email it isn't going to work - it's just too huge. I agree that 8 x 8 would be better. I emailed two separate elements which worked for this part, but won't as it continues to grow. This is a neat idea but we might need to use something other than email to move it around.

Because of issues with some being unable to send larger files.. this challenge won't work :( Sorry.

I only just discovered this and it sounds like a lot of fun - how about uploading/downloading to a site like yousendit (which is free) - and then just email the link to the next person. I realise that this would take a *long* time for those on dial up rather than broadband though. If it does ever run, I would love to join in.

A FTP site would work. Could we try that, as Kanga suggested?
