View Full Version : Proper Credit for Designers

Okay, I have to admit to some lack of foresight here. I've downloaded a WHOLE BUNCH (read several thousand at least) of freebies from digital sites as I began to explore the world of digital scrapping. Some of the files include the designer's name, but some don't. So here's my question:

1. I'm thinking that preferably any layouts I would create to post here would be done from elements that are available on this site, is that correct?

2. If I don't have the information to credit the designer, should I not even use those elements for pages I might post?

3. Could I possibly find a way to pay attention to these DETAILS at a more appropriate point? LOL!

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can post any layout you create, with any freebie you download, from here or elsewhere. We just ask that you list who the designer is who created the elements you used.

2. If I don't have the information to credit the designer, should I not even use those elements for pages I might post?

I personally wouldn't. I know I have one layout, my first one, that I don't know who created the elements.. I've since removed it from my gallery.

3. Could I possibly find a way to pay attention to these DETAILS at a more appropriate point? LOL!

Whenever I downloaded something, I would create a folder with the designer's name.. so I would have a space on my hard drive like this:

C:/Digital Scrapbooking Supplies

Inside of this main folder I would create individual folders for each designer

C:/Digital Scrapbooking Supplies/Stacy Carlson
C:/Digital Scrapbooking Supplies/Michelle Swadling
etc.

Then I would save their stuff inside those folders.

If it was a group thing, I would just create a folder for that group, so like here

C:/Digital Scrapbooking Supplies/Gotta Pixel Team kits

Since setting this up, I haven't lost the designers name ;)

Another thing I started doing a few months back is to create a "Credits Tag" where I list all the information relating to the page such as kit name, designer, site, $ or free, and a brief description if the kit name is not description enough for me to find again. Then I send this "Tag" to the back layer. It doesn't show when I view it or print the page, but I know it's there. . . . .

You are very welcome, Sherry. With just a few pages you will be able to create your own method. The cool thing is I can always access the hidden tag to make additional comments as I please. Once you develop your own criteria, you will wonder how you ever scrapped without it.

Well imagine my surprise to figure out that if I go back to the actual folder on my computer that holds the particular element, there's information about the designer in almost every case. I am using Picasa to manage my photos, and it didn't readily give me that information.

WHEW!

I'm curious to know what other people use to manage their photos and scrapbooking elements?

I put everything into Photoshop Elements 4. It is incredibly easy to sort all of your photos and scraps. I am still learning what to do with them all......

Since I use PSE4, I have a category "Kits" then I make a tag under this category "All Tied Up Kit", "Grungey", etc.

In the "notes" section of EVERY element, I put the kit name and the designer...and the website if I have it.

This way, when I click on an element, I have the information come up in the "notes" section in the "Properties" pallet.

Then I have a notepad near my keyboard. :) I write down each element and from where I got it. :)

Hope this helps a teensy bit! :)
