I hope I can explain this so it makes sense..When doing drop shadows on a matte for example what is the best setting to use? My right side and bottom look ok but it makes the rest of it look too flat. Should I be adding a drop shadow to the top and left?
Leila

I add drop shadow to the top left--I use the opposite settings (say the original drop shadow was H:3 V3--I use H-3 V-3)reduce the opacity and blur and use a light-medium gray. It keeps it from looking flat and yet the shadow isn't too in your face.
Also, if you check the "Shadow on New Layer" box, you can then use the deform tool on the shadow--it'll help make perspective shadows and can give you shadow you're looking for in the upper corner.:)

:D Hi All
I am new to this board but I do still use PSP 8 so I thought I would try to respond to the question about writing scripts.
This is just the neatest time saving tool there is.
Look at the top of your PSP8 window. On my window the script tool is toward the right of the window on the second level. You will see a small arrow on the right side of a drop down menu that has script names.
This is great for working on alphabets. Continue to the right until you see what looks like a blue donut. That is what you press to start writing a script. When you have the steps down to a certain thing you are doing, start a new file then press the blue donut. Go on a take all the steps necessary to say make an alpha letter with all the steps. To the right of the donut is an arrow that when clicked will ask if you want to cancel the script or save it. Click save and a window will open to name it and save it in.
Select the folder in My Documents that holds your PSP presets, plugins and all of those things. Go to Scripts - Restricted and open that, then name the script and save.
Now go back over to the left to the first window of the script section and click the drop down arrow, find the script you just saved and click. Next to that dropdown box is an arrow. Click on that arrow to run your new script.
I find it is wonderful for making alphabets and repetitive tasks.
I hope I haven't confused you way too much. The PSP 8 help files are very helpful with this. :D

Jen, I don't know much about scrapbooking, yet, but as a long time psp-er, I would not save any large files inside the program. It will bloat after awhile, be slow to load and crash a lot, I know this from learning the hard way, lol
I would make folders for each type and browse to them from psp. just my 2 cents :)
I love PSP (I use PSP9), but I still find the text difficult to use. Is it possible to compose text and Word Art in Microsoft Word and import it into a PSP layout? I like the spell check in Microsoft Word and notice I find journaling much easier to do in Word as well.

Hi, I use PSP 9 also and I don't do alot of wordart myself in there cause it is confusing with all the steps to follow. But as for doing the word art in Microsoft Word I believe if you copy the wordart and then go to PSP 9 and paste as new image it will come up. I have done that before with some poetry that I had saved as a Word Doc and it worked ok for me.

Hi Karen, I use psp, and what I do, is create an image with a number of 'tubes' on it, using brushes, colorise the brushes, and to each one add a slight drop shadow, then when I use the tube as a fibre it comes out looking great. I have a file I could send you as an example if you like, just let me know.

Hi! I'd really like to learn how make patterned alphabets - i.e. take patterned paper from a kit create alphas with it. I use PSP 9. Thanks!
kmk--Not sure if it works in 9, but it does in 7 and 8. Open a paper that you want as the pattern, then click the text box. Click the fill button and change it to pattern. Scroll through till you see the pattern of the paper you have open, and click it. It should fill the text with that pattern when you type it.

I've been learning PSP8 on my own and have never tried scripts, but it certainly sounds like it would be easier to do alphas this way. I usually put the letters all on one page and select them and do each step, but sometimes I miss one selection and have to go back a couple of steps. Also, when using a filter (like eye candy Glass) with gradient shading, the letters don't all come out the same, some being darker than others. Does a script repeat everything , resizing, flood fill or pattern, filters and all?
Going to give this a try. Thanks!

kmk60515 - Although the technique you were given was something awesome that I never thought of, I had something else to tell ya. If you want a particular part of the paper or something, you can always open the paper and put the text on there with ONLY the outline...that is set the fill to null. Then you can pick which part of the paper you want to show through the letter. Use the wand tool to select the background and then activate the paper layer. Delete. Did that make any sense?
Now, I have a question of my own. Anyone know how to make a knot in a ribbon?!?!

I would like to make a bow in psp. ¿any ideas or tutos? I have version 9
Hello I'm very very new , this is my first time on any digital forum of any sort, I have never posted a message ever before. so please give me lots of help. I am Liz and fairly new to scrap booking and digital scrapbooking too. I work 40 hours a week so I find digital scrapbooking is the quickest way to getting a result, I have had 4 children and brought up one more so I have lots of photographs to scrap, plus my children ( now all grown up) love it and would all like to have a book scrapped for themselves done by me, so I have my work cut out for me
My problem is--- I used to make handmade cards, and did a lot with the help of Printmaster 11. I know this quite well and can design my own papers on it. now I find I'm having trouble importing my photographs from my files into the art gallery as when I do they go in on top of one of my other images, so when I select the one I want to use on my layout page it comes up something else, I was told maybe my files were too big, and I should use Photo Impact 10 which I have on my computer but do not have a clue what to do. I need a good basic tutorial . can anyone help?

There´s lots of things I would like to learn. I´m sitting here with PSE2 and NO MANUAL! It went with my computer....So if anyone knows a good place on the net for basic knowledge it would be nice....;D (Swedish anyone?)
BUT my main question is: What is the BEST and most userfriendly program for digiscrapping?
I like PSE2 but somewhere I read that it was more difficult than other programmes...
I´d like to buy one that is more "up to date".

You have to make the spiral first then click text on bar then click on the spiral which should turn your blinkie to a t with a curve underneath it. This makes it go on the path. You may have to change the kearning/spacing of letters to make it easier to use though. You could also type your text then click ok then click on spiral which will also give you the t (or a?) with the curve.
For glitter I am assuming not with a blinkie. I have only seen tut for PSCS and not PSP.
Bow making is one of the hardest things to make. There are little to no tutorials out there because it is hard to do. There is a class you can take somewhere which will teach you how to do it as well. It basically is a ton of layers and using the warp/liquify feature. I can make a knotted ribbon but have yet to figure out the bow. I am trying though.

Yes, Eyecandy is a plug-in. You can find it at alienskin.com. There are several different products there, and most have demo versions that you can d/l. I d/l'ed the demo for one of the newer versions of the textures quite a while back. It gave me a demo of that version (so that I can preview what it WOULD look like if I bought the product, but I can't actually apply it to my stuff). But it also gave me an older version (3.1 I believe) for free....which I CAN apply to my stuff. I hope it still gives you the free older version.
Hope that helps.

Does anyone know how to do text in a spiral in PSP 8?
In order to get your text into a shape (such as a circle, square, spiral, etc.) you must create a path for it to 'follow.' You must do this using vector lines or shapes. Learning to use vectors is a scary thought for some people, but it's like anything else in a program, once you get the idea and practice, you'll wonder how you ever managed to scrap without knowing how to use them!
I'll try to briefly exlain how to make your text follow a circle (as an example). First, open a new blank canvas (or if you're doing this within a project, create a new vector layer--it's to the right of the new raster layer button). Second, as I said, you'll need your vector path. Find your 'preset shapes' tool.....it looks like a quote bubble. You will see a drop-down menu with choices. You MUST use the QUOTE BUBBLE choice for this to work. The individual shapes listed do not work. Then at the top, you'll need to use another drop-down menu to choose your shape from the 'shape list.' I'm explaining a circle, so look through and choose the 'elipse.' Make sure the boxes 'retain style', 'anti-alias', and 'create as vector' all DO have check marks in them.
To make a perfect circle, you'll need to hold down the shift key as you draw out your shape. Draw the circle by clicking on your canvas with the left mouse button...and holding this button and you move the mouse. Let go of the button when you've got the size you'd like. It doesn't have to be perfect, you can adjust it. By holding down your left mouse button on the red circle in the center, you can move it. You can also adjust the size by using the sm. red squares on the dashed line. Remember, you can always undo and start over.
Once you're happy with your circle, you can add text. Do NOT add a new layer....you want this to be in the same layer as your circle. So simply click on the text tool (the 'A') and move your cursor so that it is on top of the circle you just drew. You'll know you're right on the circle when the 'A' suddenly looks somewhat like a rocking chair. That means the text tool understands you want your text to follow this path. Left mouse click and your text box will open. Begin typing your text as usual. Watch your screen as you type. You'll have to adjust the size of your font (combined with the length of your journaling) to make it complete the circle.
The last step is to then 'hide' your circle. In your layers (on the right), find this vector layer. You should see two layers within it--the text and the elipse. (If you can't see these two layers, the vector layer will have a minus sign (-) in front of it. Click that.) Left mouse click on the eye to the right of the word 'elipse' and your shape will disappear....but your journaling will remain. You can change the color, font or font size of your journaling the same way you would regular text....by double clicking on the text layer within the vector layer. That will reopen your font dialogue box and you can make any changes.
The above directions will work for any of the choices in the BUBBLE QUOTE vector preset shapes (squares, flowers--anything in there). You can also draw your own lines and shapes with vectors. Find a tutorial on the web explaining vectors. Play with them until you understand them. It takes a little time, but it's honestly worth it! Don't be scared of it....the 'undo' button works miracles!! :)
Sorry this was lengthy (and perhaps too elementary in some places), but hopefully it will help at least one person. :)

Angeleyes--as long as you are closed out of PSP, you should be able to put the fonts into your Windowds/Font folder. The next time you open PSP , they should be in the font list.
I know this was the answer to a question several months ago, but I was looking through this thread and I have found a wonderful solution that prevents having to actually install every font you'd like to use (which will eventually overtax your system.)
The AMP font viewer is a free download font manager. (http://www.ampsoft.net/utilities/FontViewer.php#Download) (There are others, but I've used and love this one.) From what I recall, downloading it was easy. Once you have it on your computer, you can create a folder where you keep all the fonts you ever download. You can even put lots of fonts that you currently have installed in this folder....then uninstall them to free up your fonts list. I've learned that keeping your fonts list to a minimum will help keep your system running smoother. WARNING though....you need to leave many of the fonts that were installed on your computer when you bought it ALONE! They are needed to keep your system running!! This manager is for any additional fonts you'd like to have.
Once you've created the folder of fonts and installed the manager, open it from your desktop. You'll see all of your fonts in the background (with a sample) and a smaller box on top. At the top of the smaller box, click on 'TFF Not installed Fonts.' In the first column, search your computer and find the folder you created with your fonts. Click on this folder to open it. Your fonts in that folder should then appear in the middle column. To then use the fonts, click 'vIEW FOLDER AND INSTALLED FONTS.' Now all of the fonts in the folder will also be accessible through your scrapping program. Just journal as usual. Close the manager when you're finished using it. Open it the next time you need one of those uninstalled fonts.
**Now there are a couple of things to keep in mind so you don't get frustrated with the manager. While it's open, you can't minimize it. But you can open things (a new internet page or any programs you might need) by clicking 'Start' and doing it that way. Another thing is that once you've created a title or journaling in your document and are satisfied with it, you need to copy it and convert that copy into a raster. You need to do this because if you try to open the document without having the manager open, the font won't be recognized and it will send you a message saying it will replace it with a font that is actually installed.
Hope you find this helpful!
~Melissa
Hello dear folks... PSPX question. I am finally trying to put this program to use and have run across tutorials that indicate to use color depth of 16 million colors (24 bit). This does not look like an option for pspx. Could someone tell me what I am suppose to use in pspx. My tutorial also indicates to click on transparent and I have noticed that this is not always possible because it looks like that depends on what color depth I have clicked on. Hope I have not made you as confused as I am at the moment. Thanks ahead of time for any help on this.. ???
I know in the older versions, you can go to Color/increase color depth
I am putting together my first LO and I have pspx. When dragging items onto LO should I be creating a new layer for each item. I am assuming that if I were putting several of the same items on a LO (such as several buttons) or (alphas) example, they would be on a layer by themselves. Thank you ahead of time.:)

Ok I KNOW I am not new and I KNOW this will sound dumb. But HOW ON EARTH do I add DROP SHADOWS IN PSE4. I have that program and decided today, while I was bored, to try a layout. And I could NOT find a drop shadow. I could add the shadow to the top of the element but not to the bottom. IT aggrivated me so much that I quit trying! LOL Any help??

Fran, sometimes I put like items together - sometimes I do them each on their own layer. Keeping them seperate makes it easier to adjust just one if that is needed - putting them together makes it easier to add shadows to all at the same time!
Monica, at the top right corner of your screen, you'll see a row of "tabs" - click on the "layer styles" tab and then in it's drop-down, select "drop shadows". From there, select either low or soft edge (those work best IMHO). To adjust the direction of size of the shadow, you'll need to click on the "layers" tab - then double click on the tiny "f" next to the layer you are adjusting. That will open another window where you can make your adjustments.
It is easy - once you learn it :D

I am no expert but I have PSPX and I love it. I also have PSP8. To help you with your question Have the element or paper or what ever you want to color open on the workspace. On the left just above the eraser tool (or 10th down form the top) click on the little arrow and click on Change to Target. Make sure the item you want to change colors on is selected in the layers palette on the left.. Choose the color, textrue or pattern you want in the Materials palette. Choose the size of the tool up at the top and just brush it on the item. HTH!

I have a question regarding the warp brush in PSP 9. I can use the brush to a ribbon and get the exact look that I want, but then when I try to get off of that layer, it tells me that it must do a 'final apply'.....and when it does, it completely distorts my ribbon. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I'm not positive what you're asking, but I'll answer in a couple of different ways...hoping that I will be able to help you.
1) PSP does not come with any already there. You must either create them or download them from somewhere...such as this site. Then you can browse through your files where you saved them and open them.
2) If you have already downloaded some, then you just need to take that paper and add it into your layout as a new layer. (You may need to resize your paper first.) Make sure you've clicked on the paper you're wanting to add to your layout (that it is active). At the top of the paper (on the blue bar), right mouse click and choose 'copy.' Then click onto the page that is your new layout....again at the top (blue bar) right mouse click and choose 'paste as a new layer.' You can then drag that layer to wherever you need it in your stack of layers in the layers list.
Hope that helps. If not, if you could be a little more specific, someone will help you.

I don't use paint shop pro and I'm fairly new to Digital scrapbooking. I'm using Coral draw 12 which seems to work fine with most things but either i don't know how or it doesn't do certain things like burn around the edges of things. I understand that this is a brush in PSP is there any information source that I'm overlooking. Is there anybody out there! who is in the same situation as me. As all the info seems to be for PSP I'm at a dead end.

There is another way to do this other than brushes. I've never looked at Coral Draw, but I'll explain how it's done in PSP and maybe it will translate into that program.
Once you have an image open, make sure you are on the layer you want to burn the edges. First you have to use the Magic Wand tool to put the marching ants around your page or image. If your paper is patterned, this won't be as simple as just clicking the wand on that layer....as it will highlight the pattern.....not the whole outside edge of the paper. To solve that issue, make a new raster layer and while on that layer, apply the wand tool. The marching ants will be around the edge of your paper. Now click back on the layer that you're actually wanting to burn to make it active. (You can delete that extra raster layer you made either now or later.)
Next, go to Selections and choose 'Promote Selection to Layer'.....this will make a new layer in your list. Then go to Effect--3D Effects--Cutout. A box will pop open with some choices to make. I almost always keep the 'Fill interior with color' choice UNchecked (transparent). You'll need to decide what 'Shadow Color' you want to burn your edge to....black or a darker shade of whatever you're burning usually are good choices. (Remember, you can undo....so try different things to see what you like.)
Last you'll have to adjust the 'Opacity,' 'Blur,' and 'Offsets' (if needed). These options will end up being personal preferences.....but if you're burning the egdes of a whole paper, I'd suggest starting out with large values (at least Opacity-75 and Blur-100 and Offsets-both 0). Then click 'OK' and watch the edge appear. If you don't like it, undo and try different values or color, etc. Once you're happy with it, click 'Selections--Select None' to remove the marching ants. (Don't forget: these will be two layers until you either group or merge them.)
Hope that helps.

I have transparencies cause I used them a lot when I was teaching. But I have not made one for an overlay in the digital SBing.
My question is How do I put the writing or other things in the right place so that when I put it as an overlay it will be just where I wanted it.
Sandy aka mamawsandy???
Sandy-make the canvas 12 x 12 , same as a paper. Wherever it sits on the canvas will be where it sits on the overlay.
Not sure if the newer versions of PSP have this, but in the older version I did it this way. Choose the line tool, and select Bezier Curve. Drag the line across the page, then click somewhere on the line and drag it up or down. Click somewhere else on the line and do the same.
Then hover the text tool over the line, and it should show an A with a curved line under it. When you type, it will take the shape of the curve you just made. HTH.

I've just started going thru' this forum, and I would like to thank you so much for these instructions  I've been using PSP X for a couple of months, but I haven't dared to use the scripting function :D
I have a question in regards to pspx issues. I typed this once and somehow it got lost in cyber world so I will try again... I read an article which was posted from a psp user and it was about certain problems connected with pspx. One of the issues was that presets and brushes might not be installed when you first install this program. Since I am new to this program and since I have never used a previous version of psp, I would not know if something should have been installed and was not. I want to learn about brushes, presets and everything else involved with this program. Is anyone familar with issues that pspx might be having, problems or missing detail that earlier versions had that pspx does not have but should have? Is there brushes or presets missing from this version? I hope that I have not made this message sound confusing. I have the article if anyone wants to read it but thought I would just start with psp users and go from there. :???:
Hi Fran! I don't know if I will be much help to you since I don't use version 10, but I suggest that you go to Corel's website at www.corel.com . I noticed that they have a section for asking questions and support. I also noticed that there were a couple of patches that were available for download. If there was a problem maybe these took care of it? I belong to several newsgroups where the majority of the PSP users use version 10 and I have never heard anyone saying that there was a problem. I love my PSP 7, 8 & 9 and I think it (PSP) is much easier/quicker to learn than Photoshop. I have never used the Photoshop Elements, so I am unsure about the ease of using that program. I would be happy to look at your article if you would like to share the link.

I am also interested in learning more about the sizes involved in making all aspects of a kit. I have noticed that the sizes of the graphics are huge.. especially the full 12x12 backgrounds. I would like to make a full size (3600 in most cases) textured background paper.
I have made my own - but most of the time, I do not make my background papers to be 3600... at most I would create them to be 12x12 in at 200 dpi. Prints fine for me, but, I am interested in doing it the *right* way.

You can see what we as admin expect of our designers as far as sizes here:

My initial guess is that you are not on the right layer. Also, it sounds like you might be inserting your new paper on the same layer as something else. Everything that you want to move independently needs to be on its own layer. Let us know if that helps or if you need further explanation. :)

I'm using PSP X and am wondering if there is a way create my own background paper from some antique feedsack fabric that I have. I want to make some heritage pages of my MIL and since she is the one who gave me the fabric it seems like it would be perfect. Note that this fabric is the type the ladies used to use to make dresses so it has different designs on it. Very cool! I do have a scanner.

Scanning is exactly how you would do this. You need to be sure your resolution is set high enough when you scan so that the image will be paper size once it's on your computer. You can then use this image as a paper or a texture. However, anything that has a design on it is in danger of being copyrighted....and cannot be posted to the web. (Legally, it should not even be scanned.)
To use an image as an overlay (as a texture), fill one layer with a color of your choice. Then put the scanned image on a new layer above the color. At the top of the layers pallette, you will see a drop-down menu in the middle that currently says 'Normal.' Click the arrow to the right and you'll see a whole list of choices. You can simply choose 'Overlay' or play around with the other options to see which effect you like best. You can also slide the 'Opacity' slider (first option at the top of the layers pallette) until you reach the desired effect.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, Melissa,
I never thought about the copyright issue since the fabric is very, very old. These are the actual sacks that ladies would open up after using whatever was in the sack and then reuse the sacks by sewing their dresses out of the fabric. How's that for recycling. I can imagine the ladies of the day going to the store and choosing the sacks according to the fabric they liked. My MIL was very thrifty and still owned dresses sewed out of the fabric, thus my reason for wanting to use it in a layout.
I definitely won't post it on the internet. I really only want to use it for my own personal album and that's all. I remember years ago reading articles in scrapbooking magazines about scanning clothes (baby outfits in particular) and printing on cardstock to use as either mats or background paper. This was for traditional scrapbooks - not digital. I bet they never thought about copyright implications - yikes. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. And thanks for helping me so much.
blacktmmm

It might not be a copyright issue....it's just so hard to tell and it's always better safe than sorry! The story is so awesome and will make for wonderful journaling along with your photos in your scrapbook! It's great that you actually have the fabric to use!
And you're so welcome. I'm happy I have been able to help you. :)

Hi there.
I'm a beginner. Where is the best place to go to learn how to use PSP?
Also, I'm trying to make up a QP for the brag book challenge. I'm not doing so well! I have been able to make a background, size it all, create a clear area for a photo (at least I HOPE I have done this all correctly! LOL!), etc.
The problem is that I would like to add an element that came in the 'kit'.
When I open an element, say a paper clip or a flower, the background surrounding it is colored &/or pixelated around it. How do I get rid of that so I can actually USE these elements?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

:D Hi All
I am new to this board but I do still use PSP 8 so I thought I would try to respond to the question about writing scripts.

In my program, which is a bit different so I may be of no help at all, but I'll try -- I find a corner of the photo, hold down the shift key, and grab the corner and drag it towards the middle of the photo. If you keep holding the shift key down, it will make the photo smaller proportionally so that it doesn't get skewed.
I hope this helps!

Hi. I am looking for a tut to make torn paper. Where you actually have the white along the edges, even though the paper is another color. Know what I mean?
I am not sure what program you use ... so these directions may not help, but here is a tutorial at Gotta Pixel that a former design team member (and great guy!) Gary wrote up. I hope it helps!

Thank you loads! The template tutorial should do the trick. I worked and worked on a layout the other day. I found that just because one thing is open at, say, 23% and the other at 78%, doesn't really cause a problem. The second one just shrinks when I drag it on the first. (Actually it wasn't a photo.)

I just downloaded the trial version, as I heard this program is easier than elements.....is this a good program for scrapping? I was reading reviews last night and one of the comments was there are programs out there that you can use for scrapping etc. that made me question whether or not you can use it. Thanks

Welcome, Scrappinbama. I, too, use PSP ... PSP 8.1. I've heard many PSP users say how much they like PSP X. I had used the program a bit before I discovered digiscrapping. I think if I were new to this, I would look for a PSP X course on one of the digiscrapping websites. Some are offered online and others you can download videos and other materials so you can work offline. The good thing about these courses is that the instruction is geared to help you with digiscrapping. You can try googling for this information.
You could also check out Amazon or one of the other bookstores for a book for PSP X. I have one I like a lot for my version.
Try us here if there are any terms we can explain or questions we can answer.

You may want to google for some tutorials in PSP 8.1 This would have the basic features of your present program.
I upgraded recently from PSP 8.1 to PSP XII. I myself am "a bit" overwhelmed and am working in 8.1 while I try to get the hang of XII.
I have the book Digital Scrapbooking by Sally Beacham and Lori Davis. It is very helpful because it talks about how to do the same things in several common programs!

Hi Becky
I use 12 but the process I use is very simple and may be in 8 as well. Basically I use the resize command but I do it in pixels. Make sure you are using 300DPI then reduce the pixels. As long as you keep it at 300 DPI it sizes down really nicely. If you take a look at my lastest pages you'll see what I mean. They don't look bad at all for haveing over 2000 pixels removed.

Depending on the software, the answer may be different. My guess is that your software may not support .PNG files which is the typical file format for overlays. That file type supports transparency which allows the images underneath to show through.

Do you know about the clipping trick? You put your photo or paper on a layer over the mask you want to use, then press Ctrl+g to "clip" one to the other (or look for the menu command "make clipping path").
For overlays, you probably just need to change the blending mode of the topmost layer -- try setting it to overlay, and then experiment.
I hope that answers your question--I wasn't exactly clear on what problem you were having, so forgive me if that was too basic! =)

Can somebody help me figure out what I have done wrong to cause my Select Button in PSE7 to work but not the Deselect. Usually you can put your move tool on any item and move it. I can't, I have to find the thumbnail in the layers palette. The only way I can get rid of the bounding box is to hit Deselect Layers. That is not the way that tool should work and I know it didn't originally. Is there a setting I should change? It is driving me crazy. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm curious if anyone can tell my why designers don't include a text document within their products with the description they show on the store page? That information is often quite important, including lets us how many items are included, etc. I think it would be so helpful. There are some tutorials at http://www.gottapixel.net/blog/?page_id=310. Some of the ones for Photoshop CS may not apply to Photoshop Elements but it usually gives you an idea of how to accomplish something. I originally came from PSP 7 to PSE4 and was happy about the concept of layers being the same.
You can PM (Private message) me for specific questions on how to do something in PSE and I'll try to answer either here or in my Ask Lisa blog post.

It not space decide if the software runs slow or not. Sorry for my English. I will tried my best to explain it.
it is processor that need to be quick and efficient because processor is used to generate some textures, processor is used when you run some actions and scripts. It is also important how many virtual memory is set for the psp to use. Is it somewhere when you click the right mouse button on my computer and then choose properties, then advanced, efficiency, then setting and then choose the tab advanced. There should be somewhere virtual memory which is used by every application. You can try to change it. If you are not so advanced ask someone to help you. The problem may also be cause by not enough RAM memory. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random-access_memory)
i got question. I am trying to use my psp program and it is so slow I have no patience for this. can anyone tell me what the problem might be and how to fix it. None of my other programs are having this kind of problem.
Note: I have a tone of space on my computer and it's fairly new. So I don't think that is the problem. I save everything to disk by the month so I don't overload it with anything. I am trying to keep it running great.:-\

Ok - now I understand youre question. In step 2 of the tutorial, it's telling you that you need to make the background layer an actual layer. Notice that the background layer starts out with a little lock symbol. When you right-click on the background as step 2 says, you can select "Layer from Background". That converts it to a regular layer. I have Photoshop Elements and I can double click on the background layer to perform the same action. Does that help?
Also, the link I provided earlier points to an article I did a few weeks ago about making a wave on your page.

This is going to sound like a strange question but here it is. In Elements after I start a project if I save it before I am done (as a PSD file) when I reopen it to work on it again I am unable to resize or free rotate things that I have placed on the page. When I try to do either it will complete the action but then there is a white rectangle as if it is no longer a transparent layer. Is this something I can "fix" or is it something I just need to work around all the time?

Dana, you shouldn't have to work around that...it doesn't happen to me with PSE 4,5 or 7. So let me get this straight, and one of us should be able to help you... you start a project, which has several layers, then save it as a PSD file. Then next time you go to work on it, it doesn't come up just as you saved it? Or is it saved right, but problems occur just as you add new things to the existing layers? Also, does the white box show around the element, or around the thumbnail in the layers pallette? The only time I get a white box around the actual element , that is different from just the box when you use the move or transform tool , is when I've used the command "Place" to put the objects on the screen. But by just accepting the change of shape (clicking anywhere on the screen) that box goes away... If we could see your screen, we could probably help you immediately, sorry for all the questions to understand.

10-30-2009, 06:27 AM
Dana - thanks for sending me your screen shot of your layers. Can you upload the image to your gallery and post the link here? As Nancy said, you shouldn't have to work around this. I noticed that you have a some layers with a tiny icon in the bottom left of the layer thumbnail. I've never seen this - could be some PSE functionality I've not yet used!

I will show you what I mean in a gallery upload. Sorry I am behind. White box is behind the element that I resized. It open fine and I can add new items, it is just previous items that I have the problem with.
This is the layout I was changing. I needed to move the month down below center and make it smaller. It is comprised of several layers that needed to be linked so that they all resize and move together.

I didn't know anything about Smart Objects but I did find that if you drag your photos/elements from the bottom project bin to the layout, then they become Smart Objects. My understanding is that then if you make changes to the original files and then open up the layout again, the changes are reflected.
Smart Objects aren't directly editable in your layout and I think that *might* be the issue. I usually open up my photo, select all, copy, and then go to my layout and paste. You might be able to use the Move tool if your layout and photo are not maximized.

Hi mom to eve! The smart object icon means that you are just bringing the thumbnail of the image up to your page - it has to do with dragging and dropping. In PSE 7 you HAVE to drag down. So double click on the element you want to use and open it up as the main window and drag it down to your page. You can't drag up as you could in PSE 5. This certainly can make a difference for resizing, as basically you are just resizing a thumbnail, not the actual size of element. Don't ask me why they changed that.....makes NO sense to me!
Another way you can do this is, to Tile all the elements and your page - Under Windows, go to Images, then Tile. This will place all the elements you have open (all the ones in the photo bin at the bottom, and your starting page all on the screen. You then can drag the element across to your page (and that pesky smart object) won't show up. Once they are on the page, if you don't want to use them right away, just click the eyeball on that element layer and hide it. At this point you can also close the element- put it away where it came from - and this will save memory) I found it really helps though if you name the layer right away if you're going to hide it. (Double click on the name ie: Layer 4..and a box should open where you can type in ribbon, bird etc.)
I know you'll have way fewer problems if you make sure you don't drag up....you basically were trying to resize a thumbnail image which could be 72 pixels with an image that is probably 300 pixels/inch. When they were locked it would really distort it...I totally understand now....
and by the way, I'm speaking from experience here...one who also had frustration and didn't realize the change from PSE 5 to 7. :)

After you have chosen your page from browsing the images on your computer, instead of entering a description, choose upload/submit. This will take you to another page where you will be able to enter your Title, a description for you layout, any key words, and you will be able to list the kit and designer, fonts and program you used as well as a link to the KIT (not the store) you used.
You may also list it in the description if you don't want to go to the second page and enter all the information there.
Or, if you have already uploaded pages, you can choose to edit the pages from your photo options drop down in the upper right corner of the gallery page.

ok I have a ton of premade templates and qp's I have bought and downloaded from off the net but I have no idea how to use them. Can anyone help? I have Photoshop elements that I just bought. So I am new to it.

Michelle -- I've sent you a PM with some links to getting started in PSE. Hope they help.

I had this same problem, and not having PSE prior to getting PSE7, my first...had no idea what this was doing when I saved layouts to work on later......stupid that your clipboard isn't more user friendly, but get the whole thumbnail thing now....hahahahahahaha. Thanks as always ladies....still a newbie to scrapping too!

I write the "Ask Lisa" posts in the Gotta Pixel blog. I always focus on a technique or answer someone's question. You can send me a private message (PM) (http://www.gottapixel.net/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=22477) with your questions and if I know the answer I'll write a blog post. Welcome aboard!
