Today I stepped away from my daughter for a minute, and during that time, she found and decided to eat a hard candy. When I got back to her, I thought she looked "off" but wasn't worried, she's teething. Then I noticed the plate of hard candies and heard this horrible gurgling sound.

Well, I pounded her on the back and out popped the candy. She's ok, but I want everyone to remember to watch out for their little ones. This could have been a very unmerry Christmas for my family.

Oh my! I'm so glad to hear she's ok!

I worry about my 7 month old, his older sister has small toys she likes to play with and I worry he might get one and put it in his mouth, scary!

oh, christina - we had a similar incident many years ago with popcorn! Very scary! Everyone, please heed Christina's advice - just be aware of what the little ones are putting in their mouths! Christina - I'm SO glad your little sweetie is ok!

Oh, how scary! Glad to hear it worked out okay. Yes, good advice to pass on.

We also had a choking accident this summer and I was mortified. It seemed easier to watch out for them when they were smaller, but toddlers as just so creative. :?

How lucky you are! I think of that everytime I see little kids eating hot dogs too. It is the perfect choking size too.

you never realize what your littles can get into until they do. They can reach stuff you think they wouldn't little ones will aways get hurt no matter how much you watch them. rule is try to keep stuff 3 feet and higher. it is very hard and almost impossible to do in some places.

Vegaschristina, I am so glad to know that you took care of the situation before it was too late. I know exactly what you're going through when you say keep your eyes on your children because I have a very active 2 1/2 year old daughter that I have to watch very closely.

Thank God she's ok. I know what that feels like. I turned my back on my daughter for 30 seconds, thinking she's too young to roll off anywhere, and she fell off the couch! I haven't turned my back since.

UGH! We had a similiar thing happen when my daughter was 2 with "halloween" candy..and I'm a fanatic about it so it was awful when she pulled a chair up and got into the "CHOKY" candy that I had pulled out to give to my brother. Turned blue, the whole nine yards and it's an awful helpless feeling. She's 10 now and I STILL won't let her have jolly ranchers, circle Disk candies...etc!

My girl is 7 and today when she asked to take green grapes for her lunch I had to make her promise numerous times that she would be careful when eating them, you see I always cut them in half before now. Today my little girl gave me that look, you all know the one, that said oh for pete sake mom take a pill. I am a nurse and one of my scariest moments was when an elderly gentleman choked on an orange. Needless to say I'm now a worrywart about these too.
