The CardsRUs Challenge is all about celebrating! What could be more fun than that?
Make a card now to celebrate something or someone special during the month of October. You choose what you want to celebrate and use the template and instructions below to create your card. We all know about the holidays we’re used to celebrating. For this challenge, it’s perfectly fine to make a card for someone’s birthday or anniversary or for a favorite holiday. If you’d like to celebrate something new, however, here are some dates and ideas to get you started. (Believe it or not, these are considered by some to be real holidays!) This list should spur you to photograph and scrap something or someone you might not otherwise think about. I am really anxious to see which day you choose and what you’ll scrap.
10-1 Homemade Cookies Day
10-2 Name Your Car Day
10-5 International Teacher’s Day
10-9 Moldy Cheese Day (I hope no one scraps this!)
10-15 Mother-in-Law’s Day
Grouch Day
Poetry Day
10-16 Boss’s Day
Dictionary Day
World Food Day
10-21 Sweetest Day
10-22 Nut Day
10-24 Bologna Day (or this!)
10-25 Denim Day
10-28 Plush Animal Lover’s Day
10-28 Statue of Liberty Day
10-31 Juliette Gordon Low’s Birthday (know any Girl Scouts?)
Since I’ve heard from so many of you that you’d like cards you could print and fold, I’ve decided to go that route for now. For fun, I’m giving you a template for a card that isn’t the traditional fold-down-the-middle type. It will stand up when finished, so cardstock is preferable. I have some complicated fold-up cards in mind, but I’ll start the first month with something pretty simple.
My little kitty, Amber, really loves these bears and so do I so here is a preview of the card I made for Plush Animal Lover’s Day. http://www.gottapixel.net/gallery/data/551/Sample-Card.jpg
I’m providing for you a filmstrip file for you to use on the front of your card and some staples, tacks, and picture prongs you might want to use to “secure” your filmstrip. Feel free to recolor the filmstrip or any of the small pieces to match your paper. Of course, everything is done digitally until it’s time to print and fold. Here is where you can download your CardsRUs Kit. http://www.gottapixel.net/forum/local_links.php?catid=27
The back of this card will not show, so you only need to print one side. You’ll be printing on 8½ x 11 inch cardstock.
Here is the template:

Hints:
I’d suggest not printing the lines, but if you want to draw guide lines 2.833 inches down from the top and up from the bottom, it may be easier to center your text on each third of the card. Make sure to rotate your type 180 degrees for the top section. If you’re going to put a shadow on the filmstrip, it’s better to merge it with the photos first. You might notice I turned the shadow behind the upper vellum 45 degrees from the others by unchecking Use Global Light in the Style Settings box. This way the shadow will cast down in the same direction as on the front of the card when folded.
After printing and folding your card, it should stand the way my sample card does.
Please post your LOs for this Challenge in this gallery: http://www.gottapixel.net/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/585 You can either post the LO before printing and folding, take a picture of it after it’s made and post that, or both. Just remember to share so we can all see what you’ve made. It would be great if you would also post a link to your LO back in this thread. I'm wondering which special day will be chosen the most this month.
Have fun with this! There are so many reasons to make cards!
I already have a different folding card in the works for October, so happy scrappin’! :D
