Fun Funky Mystery Numbers are here!

Each weekend, I’ll post clues to a Fun Funky Mystery Number, and you’ll have all the way through Friday to send me a private message with the answer. If you’re right, I’ll brag about you in the forum, but the answer won’t be posted until the following weekend.

Yes, there are prizes! I’ve been busy making fun funky number sets, and I’ll have a different set from 0-9 that you can win each month. You can use them in LOs for ages or dates – wherever you need large fun numbers.

Clues to a new mystery number will be posted each weekend, and the prize will be the same throughout the month, so if you don’t win the first week, you have several more tries to solve a mystery number that month and get the month’s prize. Don’t worry if you’re not the fastest at math puzzles because the person who answers correctly on Friday night gets the same prize as the one who had the answer right on Monday. Just play and have fun with math!

I’ll be using the same mystery number puzzles I use in my classroom, but since some of us have been removed from the classroom for a year or two (or maybe 30), I’ll put hints and number tricks in the thread from time to time. Who knows, you might just start loving math when you see how fun it can be!

Here are the rules:

Comments are fine in the forum (You know, like “I love this game!”), but PLEEEEEEASE do not post your answer for others to see. If you do, the game’s over for the week. Instead send me a Private Message. I check them every day, and I will get it. I want as many as possible to be able to win.

You can only send me one answer/guess each week, so check your answer before hitting Submit. Your second guess during a week might earn you a “Woohoo!” but not a prize.

At the end of the week, I’ll post the answer and a list of those who won that week. I’ll also PM all the winners with the password to the prize.

You can play again every week, but unless you tell me in your PM that you need the password again, you will be just playing because you love math as much as I do. Of course, your name will be in the Winners List for every week that you solve the Fun Funky Mystery Number.

This is a really cool game and I love maths - I´m almost ashamed of telling you that I´m a math teacher myself....BUT - maybe it´s because it´s almost 6pm here and I´ve been doing a mountain of household work - you really got me lost- LOL!
Or maybe it´s the fact that I get lost in the English...:-)
(Or maybe it´s the glass of wine I had for dinner....)

I have the worst trouble remembering to play this game! I'll remember like on Thursday to print out the clues and won't get them posted before the next one starts...is there a way to set an auto reminder or subscribe to one certain part in the forum for it to remind me?

I don't want a reminder everytime someone posts... I just want to know right when a new one starts so I have time to play. I am homeschooling my kids and I want to use these each week as challenges for them...and I will play along too!

Hi Sharon! The Fun Funky Mystery Number game is now located on the Main Index in the forums. It is under the Weekly Forum & Gallery Events. It has its own forum, now.

If you go to the toobar at the top of the forum, and click on Forum Tools, there is an option to "Subscribe to this Forum".
As far as I know, it would notify you when anyone made a post, though.

The game comes out each Saturday. Possibly, you could make a note on your calendar?
I use Microsoft Outlook for my e-mail, and it has a calendar and reminder function. Also Vista, and Google have calendars with reminders on them. Maybe one of those would be an option.

We'd sure love to have you playing! :)
