I can't as my lungs cant handle the oven cleaners
Johnny just used some on the oven door to try to clean it up a bit and it stinks and my lungs are so tight!
Or do you get a cleaner in to do it?

You're supposed to clean it!?!
just kidding, ours is less than a year old, and is self-cleaning, thank goodness, but we also almost never use it, so it's still really clean.

Mine is self-cleaning, too, but it's on the fritz at the moment. Think I have a burnt out element. The microwave just does not cook food like the oven does. Ugh.

01-05-2006, 07:14 AM
I love the combination microwaves. mum got one last year and its so easy and quick to use so i plan on replacing my microwave this year for one. will be alot cheaper to use as well .... gotta use some excuse for replacing a micro that has nothing wrong with it...lol

If I didn't do it no one would. And right now it really needs it, but as you can see, I am working hard at it.

I see someone beat me to the "you're supposed to clean the oven?!"....hehehe
When I bother to, I'm the one who cleans it...much easier now that we have a self-cleaning oven though....I insisted when we re-did the kitchen. Still need to figure out how to get the racks and enameld stovetop grates clean though. :P

I clean our oven (rarely). We have a self-cleaning on, but the two times I tried to use that option it popped the GFI so the power went out on that electrical circuit and it didn't finish. It was such a bummer! Not so helpful modern convience, lol!

That is a bummer - it is worse sometimes to have some technology that is broken than to not have it at all. :-(

I'd love a self cleaning oven. Like most of the house work - I clean the oven as well.

You might want to try plugging it into a less used circuit or move some of the other items. I have so much on the one circuit if I run anything (coffee pot, toaster, etc) while the microwave is on, it blows the circuit. But if I move them to a different outlet that is on a different circuit, no problems.

Well, now the oven does, used to be my husband. He is such a great guy. I did buy him a silicone oven liner that makes it easier to keep the bottom clean.

How often are you supposed to clean an oven? I honestly don't know when it was cleaned last, I almost never cook anything in the oven, but I know with my allergies and asthma I couldn't use toxic cleaners.
I guess this proves how messy I really am. LOL!

My husband does! He's so sweet and I'm soooo lazy. Actually before we married he rarely needed to clean the oven. Now it is used much more frequently. Doesn't cooking for one just take a lot of the fun out of it? I'd much rather spoil my sweetie or feed an appreciative crowd.

I'm so thankful for self-cleaning ovens! I'm lucky I live in an apartment that came with top og the line appliances, so I never have to worry about cleaning the oven.

I have yet to clean it. I will go everything that I can in order to avoid it. I use so much aluminum foil it's insane. In fact, I am not even sure that I know how to clean the oven.
That's bad isn't it?

I don't know how people without self-cleaning ovens do it! We couldn't afford a very expensive range, but that was DEFINITELY a requirement! After it does it's thing, SIMPLE to clean up!

Nobody cleans mine, I hate to admit. I can't and no one else will. It is really yucky. My husband came in the other day and sprayed some cleaner in it. I choked and coughed. He sprayed and left the mess for me to clean up.

Ovens are supposed to be cleaned? ROFLMBO I clean the oven, as Mom can't stand the fumes anymore and Dad is too lazy to lift a finger in his retirement. Though with Mom's stroke from 2 weeks ago he is actually washing dishes now.
Oh and we have a self-cleaning oven that doesn't clean itself. None of them ever did :(.

I don't clean mine. The last time I did the self clean it died! The stove was only 2 months old and under warranty and it took the company another 6 months to get me another one! I finally had to cry to the rep that Thanksgiving and my MIL was coming to town and they can't be that heartless! So, now I'm afraid and my oven is dirty and I really do need to clean it. Ok thanks for listening so my sad tale!

03-02-2006, 11:21 PM
Well, we have a new oven so it hasn't had to be cleaned yet, but I wipe and clean the top a couple times a week (it's one of those ceremic tops so easy to clean) - my husband will eventually clean the oven as he is the one who does most of the cleaning around here anyway.. I'm so spoiled!!!!
babyofmine
03-03-2006, 12:18 AM
I usually clean the oven, as I don't think anyone else does it as good as I do! :D Mine is SUPPOSED to be self-cleaning, but I am soooo scared of that! :) So I get the lemon-smelling stuff from Dollar General and clean while the kids play outside or at a neighbor's house.

I guess I do... I try to give it a good clean once a fortnight... it doesn't get used all that often :)

I'm so lucky. I have somebody to do it for me. :-)
I do. But I don't mind. The oven is self-cleaning (made sure of that when I picked it out :)) and I just throw the racks in a garbage bag overnite with some ammonia & rinse them off!! Alot easier than it used to be.

03-03-2006, 09:02 AM
Oh Im bad...LOL I have never cleaned it.. NOT the inside anyway.. =X I rent and the stove is kinda new and it really doesnt get dirty? does it? I have tin foil on the racks so that stops any drips..

Well just last month when Dh set fire to my oven (it was terrible!) I made him clean it up. But what I wont tell him is he did a lousy job and I had to come in and reclean it myself!
So I guess that answers that we don't hire out, but I clean it. I mix together Washing Soda (its really cheap) and make a paste out of it. Lather it on the oven (oh and it has a smell, but not too over powering) let it sit, then wash off several times with hot water and it has removed all my nasty black things in my oven. Its wonderful and safe around children. The only thing I recommend is you wear gloves because it is powerful and will make your hands very dry!
So yeah, there you go.

Bah..don't remind me! I've been avoiding using my oven because something spilled on the bottom of it and I haven't cleaned it up yet lol. I honestly didn't know that happened either.. until I turned on the oven and my house filled with smoke and the smoke alarms went off lol
Now that you all reminded me, I'll probably do it tomorrow Grr! hehe

OK so I originally posted that my self cleaning oven died when I self cleaned for the first time! Well now the NEW oven that replaced the old(2 months old) needs a cleaning. After worrying aobut htis for 6 weeks I go to self clean it today and now this new oven says i have an error F7!! I call the wervice number and they have to send someone out!! I swear I wish I never even got this brand oven - two faulty ovens in 8 months? Sonethong is not right!

I clean the oven at my house, I'm not lucky enough to have self cleaning though, so I have to use the stinky oven cleaners.

03-21-2006, 09:52 AM
Oven? What's that! lol -
No one! Oven cleaners are toxic for my birds, so I rarely use the oven. I do have a 'light wave oven' - which is small, and I clean that with just non-scratch cleaner and water.
