MAKING A BASIC WASHER:

I AM USING PSE 3.0 FOR THIS TUT.

1. OPEN A NEW FILE - 3 INCHES X 3 INCHES. RESOLUTION AT 300, RGB COLOR, TRANSPARENT.

2. USING YOUR CUSTOM SHAPE TOOL, SELECT THE SOLID CIRCLE SHAPE -- AND WITH YOUR COLOR OF CHOICE -- MAKE A 2" CIRCLE. HOLD DOWN YOUR SHIFT KEY AS YOU DRAG THE CIRCLE TO CONSTRAIN PORPORTIONS. (this will be the rim of your washer, I used grey)
SIMPLIFY THIS LAYER.
ADD A BEVEL -- SIMPLE PILLOW WITH A BEVEL SIZE OF 7.

2. SELECT A NEW COLOR AND AGAIN, USING YOUR CUSTOM SHAPE TOOL, MAKE ANOTHER CIRCLE TO FIT INSIDE THE FIRST CIRCLE - LEAVING AN OUTTER RIM OF THE BOTTOM COLOR SHOWING.
SIMPLIFY THIS LAYER.
ADD A BEVEL -- SIMPLE PILLOW WITH A BEVEL SIZE OF 14.

3. MERGE THESE TWO LAYERS.

4. WITH YOUR ERASER TOOL, SIZED ABOUT 300 PIXELS ... CUT OUT THE CENTER OF THE MERGED LAYERS.

5. NOW YOU ARE GOING TO ADD YOUR TEXT... SELECT YOUR TEXT FONT -- (keeping in mind you are going to warp the text and some fonts don't take toO kindly to being warped... so just test a couple until you find one you like. I used Shannon.)

6. ANYWHERE ON YOUR LAYER, TYPE OUT YOUR TEXT. CLICK THE CHECK TO ACCEPT IT.

7. AT THE TOP RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR TOOL BAR THERE IS A "T" WITH AN ARC UNDER IT. CLICK ON THAT. THIS WILL OPEN THE WARP TEXT BOX.

8. UNDER "STYLE" SELECT ARC, HORIZONTAL, WITH A +50 BEND. (you may have to adjust these based on the font you choose. just play with it until you get a suitable bend in your text.) CLICK "OK" TO ACCEPT.

9. CLICK ON THE MOVE TOOL AND CENTER YOUR TEXT ON THE TOP PORTION OF THE WASHER.

10. MAKING SURE YOU HAVE YOUR TEXT LAYER HIGHLIGHTED, ADD A SIMPLE PILLOW BEVEL WITH A BEVEL SIZE OF 4 (this may need to be adjusted based on the font you choose.)

11. WITH THE TEXT LAYER HIGHLIGHTED.. COPY THIS TEXT BY DRAGGING IT TO THE "CREATE A NEW LAYER" ICON IN THE LAYERS PALETTE.

12. GO TO "IMAGE".. "ROTATE"... "LAYER 180" ... NOW MOVE THIS LAYER TO THE DESIRED POSITION ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WASHER.

13. IF YOU WANT TO ADD ANY SHAPES TO ACCENT YOUR WASHER, THIS CAN BE DONE USING THE CUSTOM SHAPE TOOL AS WELL. SELECT YOUR COLOR.. SELECT THE SHAPE...* DRAG IT OUT TO THE DESIRED SIZE ON YOUR WASHER .. SIMPLIFY THE SHAPE ... AND ADJUST ITS PLACEMENT WITH THE MOVE TOOL. DON'T FORGET TO ADD A SMALL SIMPLE PILLOW BEVEL TO EACH SHAPE.

14. WHEN FINISHED, MERGE LAYERS AND SAVE AS A PNG FILE. YOU NOW HAVE A WASHER! :)

Wow! I love your washer!!! I'll have to try it out :) It's even more attractive to me because I scrap in French and washers having French words are really hard to find, on either form (paper and digi)...

So thank you very much for writing this tut :)

I like the tutorial, thank you! But why is it called a "Washer"?

Thanks!... I am guessing it's called a washer because it is shaped like the metal washers one would use with a screws, bolts, and nuts?.. :)
