Did this one for the Blast from the Past Challenge...

Journal reads:
Growing up in Buffalo, New York we are used to snowy winters...lots of snow! We've had our fair share of bizzards too. One of the most memorable ones of my childhood was the Blizzard of '77. The day started out nice enough, but by noon on Friday, January 28, 1977 the blizzard hit. The temperatures were near zero and the wind gusts were over 70 miles and hour. I don't think we accumulated but maybe 7" of snow, but the wind blew all the snow off Lake Erie and created massive snow drifts. Some of the drifts reached 30 feet and buried some houses completely. Being only five and in Kindergarten, I remember being on the school bus that was stuck on a side street for hours trying to get the kids home. Turns out we were 3 blocks from my house and my Mom went venturing out into the storm to find me. I remember her knocking on the bus door and taking me and my friend Tracy home. I was so happy to see her and she promised us lots of hot chocolate. Now being a Mother myself I can only imagine how terrified she really was if she went out looking for me. The storm lasted until February 1st and Buffalo was declared a national disaster area, cleanup lasting well into February. It was definitely the storm of the century.
