Joseph-Marie Jacquard
Joseph-Marie Jacquard (1752-1834). French Silk Weaver. His invention of the Jacquard Loom in 1801 made it possible to weave complex patterns automatically. The silk workers of his native Lyons smashed his machines, but by 1812, 11000 looms were in use and they were adopted worldwide.
