Mount Vernon 07
After spending a very interesting week in the
nation’s capitol, Gordon and I decided to hit
George Washington’s plantation on the way
out of town. We arrived on a very brisk and
chilly morning, paid our $26 each, sat down in
a theater to watch a short movie about the
history of the great man himself. It was very
well done and I could have watched more.
But it was time to be shoved back out into
the bracing chill flowing off of the Potomac.
Wisely, we decided to brave the extraordinarily long
line waiting to get into the mansion. I overheard a
man mention that they hadn’t moved in the last fifteen minutes. I turned to Gordon and explained that I was going to see if I could snap a few shots of the graves and the rest of the plantation while he held our place in line. When I got back, he took his turn to tour the gardnes and the rest of the estate. Finally, we were in our of the cold and walked inside the cramped rooms of the most famous president our nation has ever known. It was an amazing experience. 4-7-07
