Shaker Villiage
Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, October '88. JOurnaling reads: Ed and Peggy took us to Shaker Village for dinner. First we walked around the grounds where re-enacters were performing tasks. Then we visited the main house. The guide told us how the Shakers would sprinkle flour on the floor between the men's dormitory and the women's so they would be able to tell if anyone had broken the rules and crossed to the other room during the night. That's pretty much why there aren't any more Shakers! After dinner we watched a re-enactment of a typical Shaker service. It was all very interesting and well worth the long drive from Lexington to Pleasant Hill.
