We did the tourist thing in the summer of 2003 and went into Dublin city to see for ourselves the new Spire monument.
Journaling reads:
The Spire of Dublin was erected at the beginning of
2003 and replaced Nelson’s Pillar which had been blown up in 1966.
It is 120 metres high and is also officially called the Monument of Light.
When we went into the city on the 2nd of July it was a really dull day and the Spire was still a work in progress and surrounded by steel railings.
